1. What is the mission of  (SMI Global Foundation)?

romoting global classical music awareness and serving as the definitive source for a free and accessible sheet music library.

For centuries, classical music has shaped culture, inspired creativity, and expanded the human spirit. Yet for many musicians, teachers, and students, access to quality sheet music is restricted by cost, geography, and institutional paywalls.

The Sheet Music International Global Foundation removes those barriers by digitizing and preserving classical sheet music and making it freely available to anyone in the world. Our purpose is simple and ambitious: put classical music into every home, school, and community.

To preserve classical music and provide free, global access to high-quality sheet music and educational resources � ensuring every student, musician, and community can learn, perform, and experience the world�s musical heritage regardless of financial or geographic limitations.

Through private donations.

Making people aware of the availablity of the SMI library and of organizations that offer classical music programs.

Yes, it is a 301(C)(3) non profit organization.


About the Sheet Music Music Library

Is all of the sheet music on the website truly free?
Yes, all of the music publically available in the library is public domain music.  There are no restrictions on downloading, printing, performing or making arrangements.
6.  What types of music or composers are included in the library?
All of the major and a large number of the minor composers in western music from Palestrina to Shotakovich.

7.  Is the sheet music legal to download? Are there any copyright concerns?
There are no copyright concerts using public domain music.

Can I use the sheet music for public performance or recording?
yes

How often is new sheet music added to the library?
Music is usually added a couple times each week.

How can I search or browse the sheet music library?
You man browse the library directory tree of composers.  When you click on a composer it opens a list of folders with all of their music sorted by Genre.  ie.  concertos, quartets, symphonies, etc.

There are two search engines.  The first searches for a composer by name, the second searches for compositions.

Do I need to register or create an account to download music?
Yes.  The library includes a personal library for each user to bookmark music for quick reference.  Users may also upload music to contribute to the library.   Thus the system needs an account to know whose music and bookmarks it is.

I found an error in a score. How can I report it?
Click the contact us button and e-mail us directly.
